How to Brand Yourself

In the age of the internet, having a strong brand is more important than ever. If you have a brand name, you can be found on Google, and people can do business with you from almost anywhere if you have a web site.

Your brand is a complex mix of your talents, values, beliefs, and many other things. It is what you, or your business is known for. Here are some tips for discovering your personal brand.

Ask yourself a few tough questions to get started. One of the questions you should ask yourself is what makes your business and services unique. Ask yourself what your biggest strengths are, as well as what are your passions. Having a in-depth understanding of you and your business is the place to start.

Once you have an answer to those questions, then you can start the branding process. Next, find out just who your target market is. Once you do this, you can position your products and talents to satisfy this core group of consumers. Another key thing you must do early on is to identify your competition. Know what they have to offer the customer, and how you can differentiate your products and services to better serve the customer is key. You must have a unique selling points and position as to why customers should choose you, and not the competition.

Once you have taken these steps, take the time to create your own brand statement. This brand statement should be at least a couple of sentences that define who you are, what you do, and what makes you different from the competition.

Once you […]

SEO Is Losing Importance, Being Replaced By Social Media, The Number 1 Activity On The Internet

There was a time, and it was not that long ago, that SEO, or search engine optimization, was all of the rage. Getting the right keywords, in the right places, in an attempt to get on that first page of a Google or other search engine key phrase search was what everyone was chasing. This even spawned new businesses who did nothing but optimize websites for clients to help them get a better ranking on Google.

But big changes have happened in the past few years. Social media has become all of the rage, and it can have a profound effect on how a web page is ranked in search engines. Here are some facts you need to know.

According to Experian, 27% of internet time in the United States is spent on social media sites, and 15% of the mobile internet time is spend surfing social media sites. Social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook produce close to two times the marketing leads of telemarketing, trade shows, and direct mail. The most telling statistic may be the following, as more than 45% of online users rely on social media when making a decision to purchase goods or services.

So does this mean that SEO is dead, and no longer important in search engine rankings? Not by a long shot. Google still uses SEO in their search ranking algorithms, and they probably always will. But, if you have a business and are looking to drive more traffic to your door, and to your web site, you simply cannot overlook the growing importance of social media.

So if you are serious about driving more traffic to […]

Making A Decision Among LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Google Plus

If you are a newbie to the social media scene, and are wondering which of the many sites is right for you, you’ve come to the right place. We will take a look at each one, what they are primarily for, and what benefit they offer you.

Twitter is a social media network where members can send short messages to their followers, called tweets, to let people know for the most part what they feel, let them know what they are doing, or where they stand on issues of the day. Many famous people have accounts here, where tens of thousands of people follow them daily. If you have a large following, who hang on your every word and action, this is the place for you.

Facebook is the largest social media network, with billions of members. This is the place to connect with family, former classmates, and long-lost friends. It is also a great place to get in some heated political and religious debates.

Looking for a place where you can easily share online photos? Instagram can do that and much more. You can also share videos and post them to your other social media accounts. If you are a budding photographer, this is the place for you.

Another photo sharing web site, Pinterest is a free web site that allows users to upload all sorts of images – known as pins – and save, sort, and manage them. Videos can also be uploaded and managed. People here organize their “pinboards” most often on a central theme. This is another site ideal for those who love photography and art.

Google Plus is a social network owned and operated by the search engine giant. Launched in 2011, this is […]

How to Succeed with Social Media

The internet and the social media have combined to create a vibrant communication…and a great information platform in the current times. Everything you post on social media impacts your personal brand, but then, the best minds steal the cake…

Social media is a common place for every marketer…Read on to learn a few useful tips:

Businesses need to encourage informal dialogue and welcome competition by being open and transparent. Companies which have secrets to hide would always be a mile away from success.

Social media ought to be taken seriously and not a job as per convenience. The company needs to act responsively and maturely towards its fans, friends and stakeholders. It is a commitment in itself.

Successful social media practitioners are ones who stand for their brand, who live and breathe their topics and possess a strong sense of corporate identity. Brand ambassadors, but in the most natural way, are highly…highly successful.

Creating quality content can make all the difference. The content needs to be informative, sharable, actionable and relevant to the target audience. However, it shouldn’t seem to be a piece of mere selling. A ‘striking’ image accompanied by a few ‘striking’ words is bound to generate the much needed impact. The more contagious it is, the higher is its impact.

The public likes responsiveness and a feeling of emotional connection. Automated responses are simply OUT, and in fact, tend to promote negative attention.

Mastering the strategies for content on one social media platform is the ideal way to begin with. Identifying the platform where the target audience can be found most time of the day is the best way to sell to customers; taking up other platforms subsequently is the righteous approach.

A content that ensures clear objectives, great […]

Where Social Media Fails

“Content is fire, social media is gasoline”…Marketers via social media need to realize that social media is less about technology and more about relationship building…Undeniably, the focus of the brand marketers on social media has increased the web traffic considerably. At the same time, there are reasons for its failure too:
Many companies endeavor to focus too much on sales via social media, rather than using it as a platform to provide value added information about the products/services.
Most companies tend to set unrealistic expectations from SMM than what are achievable. This platform can put across the product/service just in a way it is, whereas the marketers expect it to transform its attributes (such as customer service, brand reputation, etc) altogether.
Many companies follow a route of offering too many things to audience, and so, tend to use maximum number of tools to spread their social media presence; but then, they forget that spreading too much is not the right approach; instead, spreading rightly is the way to go.
Identifying the target audience, their wants and needs, is the route to take for effective marketing. Being extensively present online is not the way to fruitful outcomes.
People tend to offer web content that portrays the product much bigger than what it actually is; instead, people like to read content that is educative, entertaining and connective. Direct selling is a big NO, and it is high time, marketers realize this. Content that stirs emotions is what sells.
Very few companies indulge in being proactively engaged in online conversations, but then, they need to understand that this is the best way to create new relationships and advocate their concern, step by step.
Although there is no direct solution to effective social media marketing, […]

How Social Media has become More Impactful…And How to Find Something

The essence of social media is knowing your audiences and engaging them in something they love…Social media is about people…Social media marketing has truly picked up over the last few years…In fact, it is similar to a ball rolling down the hill, which gains momentum gradually with time…From selling diapers to marketing dental practices, social media is into all…

Apart from email, face book, twitter, and Pinterest are the most popular platforms that cater to social media communication and send chunks of data to an extensive audience. It has been observed that population having their social media presence has risen by a considerable percentage; and this accounts for the ‘rise time statistics’ online, which refers to rise in the average time spent by visitors over the web.

In the US, statistics reveal that the time spent by customers over online video sites is somewhat:

Youtube: 3 hours/month; Netflix: 10 hours/month; Hulu: 2.5 hours/month

Also, around 61% of the US population (men and women) have been observed to watch TV and concurrently surf the internet, out of which 29% population is into watching TV and accessing Face book side by side. Thus, we can say that gone is the era when watching TV was carried out in the same traditional way in every household; but then, the internet and the mobile phones have, very capably, transformed this decades-long tradition.

In the year 2014, it has been observed that the percent of adults who surf video sharing sites has grown to nearly 75%…It is truly predictable how the increase in the number and frequency of web users on social media sites has enhanced the impact of social media marketing that has managed to grab a huge pool of audiences in […]

Knowing Your Web Analytics – Your Report Card on the Effectiveness of Your Marketing

First let’s look at a simple example of how web analytics increased my sales.

I studied my web analytics, made a marketing change on my LinkedIn messages and saw a dramatic increase in my visits to my web site. After each message sent to my connections, I added:

This resulted in 30-50 more visitors a day to my website and calls and new clients from all over the country.

Next, you need to make sure that your web host has analytics available. Or, your designer has included web analytics on each page of your web site. Google Analytics is commonly used and easy to install.

Web analytics show what is happening on your website:, 1) how many people visited your website, 2) which web page they visited, 3) how they arrived on your website, 4) what keywords brought them to your website,  etc. If you are spending money to promote your website using multiple marketing channels such as PPC, SEO, social media, email campaigns etc. web analytics is vital in evaluating the usage of your marketing investments.

Web analytics can be immensely helpful in measuring the impact of these marketing campaigns. With the help of web analytics, you can find out how effective are your marketing campaigns in terms of generating traffic and attracting target audience to your website. You can also analyze if the marketing campaigns were successful in generating leads, converting them into sales and achieving business goals.

If you are spending a lot on creating fresh content, targeting new keywords and promoting your website on various platforms, social media posting, etc, time is money and needs to be paying off. However, if conversion rate does […]
